A little over 6 weeks ago my wife asked if I wanted to be signed up to a 5k that happened to be sponsored by my previous employer. I wasn’t to keen on it for that reason, however she let me know they were giving the money raised to the Wounded Warrior Project. For those of you that don’t know, I am a Wounded Warrior myself after serving for 8 and a half years in the Air Force.
I decided to go ahead and do it. I’ve been wanting to get into better shape and thought this would push me into it weather I wanted to or not. At first I really attempted to get into better shape, ran for about a week nearly every day, and felt pretty good about it. But, then it started raining… for about 2 weeks.
I didn’t want to get sick, so I thought well this is ok I can run once it stops. Guess what? Yeah, I didn’t.
I ended up running the 5k on the 4th of July. It went about as bad as I have ever had. It was hot, humid, and frankly I didn’t really feel it that day. On top of everything, I ended up rolling my ankle about half way through. I’m ok, not even a bad sprain, but it hurt pretty bad for the rest of the run.
I ended up with a 45 minute 5k. I’m in the worst shape of my life, and frankly hated it the whole time.
I’ll probably do it again though…
